Literacy Tip of the Week

What’s “Just Right”?
Just Right Books

Children feel confident and competent when they read books that are “just right.” But how do you find a “just right” book? Have your child read the back and front cover, and first page of the book. If there are more than five words that he cannot pronounce or understand in context, the book may be too challenging. Be supportive about finding a more perfect fit. Choosing the right book will help your little reader feel successful.

American Education Week

The week of Nov. 13-17 is the National Education Association's 96th annual American Education Week!  This week presents an opportunity to celebrate public education and honor individuals who are making a difference in ensuring every child receives a quality education.  As we do each year during American Education Week, students are invited to get involved as well.  On Wednesday, November 15, students are invited to 'dress like a teacher' for the day.

Our Artists

Many of BHE's artists have work showing at R2i2. Go see for yourself!
Thank you, Ms. Roop for teaching and inspiring our students!

Literacy Tip of the Week

Introducing New Words
Strategy
Example
Provide a simple, kid-friendly definition for the new word.
“Enormous means that something is really, really big.”
Provide a simple, kid-friendly example that makes sense within their daily life
“Remember that really big watermelon we got at the grocery store? That was an enormous watermelon!”
Encourage your child to develop their own example
“What enormous thing can you think of? Can you think of something really big that you saw today?”
Keep your new words active within your house.
“Take advantage of opportunities to use each new vocabulary word in conversation.”
